Our case analysis to determine the social and economic susceptibility of 100 children, and young adults ages 12 - 31 with Type 1 diabetes seeking care at Ganta Hospital from 2017 – 2018 in Liberia shows that 99 % of the patients will ultimately develop complications and die prematurely immediately when aid is discontinued. Besides, their long-termed survivability is questionable when no laboratory investigation is done in the presence of aids.
This is the data, 100% of the children in the analysis above are not insured, 99% of parents can’t afford care and worse of all, 76% are not in school, 100% did not do lab because of lack of fees - it means there’s no hope for life and what is eminent is death – something that no one wants.
Therefore, in SLO is poised to developing an exclusive program for type 1 diabetes patients to take care of their educational and social needs by preparing them to underwrite the costs of their treatment when they are no longer covered by aids. Sehzoor Life Organization (SLO) works with susceptive people (extremely poor residents with chronic illness – diabetes, disabilities, etc.) to enable them to raise incomes to support healthcare and basic social services.
